Q - What inside look to filming BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS can you tell us?
We had to wake up every morning at 4:00 AM to be at the studio by 5:30 for makeup. It took a week to film that segment of the movie. On the last morning of filming, I got up and then fell asleep on the toilet. My wife heard me snoring at woke me up at 6:00!! I have a permanent ring on my butt to this very day.
The party scene of BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS took one week to film. We had to be on the set every morning at 6:30 (for makeup). My greatest recollection was that of a comedian named STAN ROSS. If I say "MAYONNAISE!!", you'll know who I mean. There was SO much stuff they filmed of him that didn't make it into the movie. Very funny guy...he had us rolling on the floor every day.
I can recall walking out of the Hollywood Premiere mid-way through the movie. How was I to know it'd be cult classic? I was embarrassed to be in it. If you look closely, you can even see me roll my eyes in one scene. Wearing the pink shirts was NOT my idea.
Q - When filming this movie, did you get a chance to schmooze with all the half naked girls running around the set? It must have been a young guy's dream.
Did you see a picture of me back then? C'mon!
That was a '53 goldtop Les Paul.
For the two new original songs we did for the movie, I'M COMIN' HOME & GIRL FROM THE CITY.
shaw: I wonder if Zap is around.I found a guitar someone was throwing out and it has Zapp on the headstock. Turns out its one of those Law Suit era Les Pauls. I'm putting it back together it was only the body & neck, with no hardware but I got all the parts now.
