I didn't know him all that well though I feel I've spent quite a bit of time with him. Fine person to talk to...never gave me the 'bums rush', if you know what I mean.
While under his management, he came out to see us on the road many times...we couldn't accuse him of not being 'hands-on'. I only called him personally on two occasions...took my call both times.
He really loved the new band as well as the old band. He called me the "Count Basie of rock and roll." Don't know what that means exactly, but he was always a gentleman to me.
Sure enjoyed his performance in "Bugsy"!
The last time I saw him was a couple of days before he died. We were playing in Sacramento and he flew over to see the show. His helicopter pilot buzzed the stage on his way out. Now, of course, we all wonder about that pilot.
I'm proud to have a picture of the two of us on my website. Taken in Baton Rouge at the beginning of our 1991 tour.
shaw: I wonder if Zap is around.I found a guitar someone was throwing out and it has Zapp on the headstock. Turns out its one of those Law Suit era Les Pauls. I'm putting it back together it was only the body & neck, with no hardware but I got all the parts now.
