Toy Caldwell
I never played with Toy back in the 70s, but I watched him play quite a few times. I consider him to be an American original. It wasn't until a couple of weeks before he passed away that I actually sat down and spoke to him at length.

One night at an Atlanta nightclub, some guys from the ARS came in and wanted to play. The only extra guitar we had was a 70s Les Paul of mine that was strung with HEAVY strings for slide. Barry Bailey said that'd be no problem. I mean, these were MONSTER gauge strings - and Bailey just played it like there were super slinkies on there. I HATE that guy.
The ARS was the last great Southern band of the 70s. And after Hatchet, the genre died. Man, I hate the word 'genre'.
Uh-oh ... someone's gonna say that .38 Special was a Southern band. Yes, they were...but I consider that 'pop' not 'rock'. Geez...Carlisi's gonna KILL ME.
Just disregard whatever I say...I don't know $hit from $hinola.

Rudge didn't want me around because I was against working the band to death on the road. So he wanted me OUTTA THERE. And, looking back now, he did me a favor. But what he did to those other guys...
Rudge was the first one I ever saw who mesmerized Ronnie. Never thought it could happen. It was the British accent.
