Q - Can you tell me a little about the differences in playing with Bob Burns versus playing with Artimus? I have always wondered what the transition was like and how it effected the band back then, because my experience says that a drummer transition can be kind of awkward.
A transition between drummers is TOUGH.
Burns was a very original drummer - perfect for what we were doing. Then Artimus seemed like a logical choice at the time as it took us in a slightly different direction feel-wise.
Custer's drumming is, for lack of a better term, from another planet. He's one of the very FEW drummers alive who, when you hear something he's played on, you can identify him by his feel, snare sound, riffs, attitude. No one KNOWS a song better than Cus. Chances are real good that he'll know a song better than the guy singing it.
